The Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Anthem, Arizona is hosting its second annual “Friends of the Poor, Walk a Mile in My Shoes” 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at the St. Rose Philippine Duchesne church located 2825 W Rose Canyon Circle. The net proceeds of this Run/Walk will go towards building the food pantry at St. Rose which will provide temporary emergency subsistence for families who are suffering. St. Vincent de Paul works in conjunction with other not-for-profits in the service area to distribute food and many other services to any family or person in need regardless of age, religion or ethnic group. St. Vincent de Paul serves the Anthem, Tramanto, Black Canyon, New River and other north Phoenix communities.
The 5K Run/Walk is open to all casual and serious runners and walkers. The course is out-and-back and is predominantly asphalt. Water will be available at the turn around and start/finish line. Families are encouraged to participate through reduced fees for children. Parents with strollers are welcome. Run/Walk fees include a tee shirt, indoor restrooms and goody bag. The St. Rose Knights of Columbus will serve all participants a free pancake breakfast after the race; non-participants may join in the breakfast for a small fee.
Anthem Community has come together to provide cheering for the participants and in other ways provide a fun event for participants and spectators alike. Run/Walk Sponsors will have booths near the Start/Finish line to provide information and service.
